In "The Little Plane" we introduce our two characters Hàoyǔ and his mother Lìfāng, who live in a small village on the east coast of China. While Lifang reads her book, Hàoyǔ plays with his little toy plane. The peace is disturbed when Hàoyǔ pretends his toy plane is a real fighter plane and imitates shooting sounds. Lìfāng is not happy that her son sees war as a game and demands that he hand over his toy plane to her. But Hàoyǔ snatches the plane away from her. Not wanting to start a fight, the mother gives up and goes back into thehouse. Insulted, Hàoyǔ sits down on the cliff when he suddenly sees a glimmer in the sky. It is the reflectionof three planes heading for the coast. Hàoyǔ is delighted and waves to them. But when the planes start to dive, he gets scared. He drops his toy plane and runs back to the village. However, the planes overtake Hàoyǔ and destroy the village with his mother's house. In the end, Hàoyǔ falls to the ground in front of the burning house.
